Ancestral Puja and Food Mandala
By donation, suggested is $45
In recent years, psychologists have proven that we carry with us the traumas (and successes!) of our ancestral lineages through our blood. Many spiritual disciplines have long known this and have made offerings to the ancestors to feed and support them. We give thanks to our ancestors for being a part of the unbroken chain that brought us here. And sometimes we can actually feel that we are carrying them too much, carrying their suffering and pain and lack inside of us. Sometimes we live out their old dysfunctional stories.
But we don’t have to.
Please join Cat for an afternoon Ancestral Puja and Food Mandala offering. We will gather and invoke our ancestors, so bring pictures or write their names down for the collective altar.
Cat will teach you the mantra for nourishing the ancestors as taught to her by Maya Tawari, Swamini Mayatitananda.
Together we will create the food mandala as we are observed by our ancestors on the communal altar. We will chant a mantra for their wellbeing and nourishment through all space and time. We will also offer a water blessing.
When the mandala is done, we will head down to the river and cast our offerings into the river and along it’s banks to feed the crows and fishes. They will carry our prayers to our ancestors.
Mother Maya said, “We are meant to stand on the shoulders of our ancestors. Not carry them on our backs.”
You will learn how to do exactly that.
What to bring:
Pictures of your ancestors
FLOWERS and FOOD OFFERINGS in the form of dried lentils, grains, seeds, and beans.
Your special rocks or crystals (you’ll take those home with your photos)
You will receive a mantra card and a recording of our practice, along with the teachings and feeling of liberation after you learn how to feed your ancestors properly, without them feeding off of you.
