Ayurvedic Consultations with Joseph Immel
What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is the ancient folk medicine of India. It is a tradition, like acupuncture, based upon 5,000 years of history. Ayurveda is a holistic medicine, an art and a science using diet, simple home spices and lifestyle changes to bring about radical change in the body. Ayurveda is about education. That means you learn a new approach to colds and flu, insomnia, fertility, and many other disease conditions. Ayurveda incorporates tools for spiritual and emotional growth. It is a complete system for happiness and fulfillment in the current life.
What can I expect from an ayurvedic consultation? During a consultation, we assess pulse, tongue, and nails. We ask questions to determine your unique constitution. Consultations generally last fifteen minutes. Full hour long sessions are also available. The result of a consultation is a diet and lifestyle plan including herbs. And a lot of new understanding!
Who is Joseph Immel? Joseph Immel studied Ayurveda under Dr. Vasant Lad and in India. He is the founder of joyfulbelly.com and director of Ayurveda for Yoga Spirit Studios. He is a published author in the Light on Ayurveda Journal. Joseph leads cooking and Ayurveda workshops nationally . In Asheville, North
Carolina he runs a Community Ayurveda Clinic providing affordable Ayurvedic education and wellness.
Prior to Ayurveda, Joseph worked on public health projectswith a particular focus on South Asia & the Middle East. He holds a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Harvard University.
On the more personal side, "I love to cook warming, satisfying foods that bring people together. Delicate flavors and hearty ingredients open people up to a new awareness of how food makes life meaningful. Cooking also brings personal freedom and creativity. When I returned home from South Asia, I came to love the sweetness of the mountains of Appalachia, the vitality of plants, and wild-crafted foods. Frank Cook, a botanist traveling the world living entirely by donation, taught me how to identify and gather wild medicinal herbs.”
